A man who watched the Anthony Bourdain biopic last week and has since restarted a brief but strong Anthony Bourdain phase has started getting creative with his mi goreng again.
29 year old Riley Mercer, who had not thought about Bourdain for about a year, reportedly emerged from the film with a renewed appreciation for travel, street food and the importance of chucking a fried egg on meals that previously did not require one.
After spending much of Sunday watching old Parts Unknown clips on YouTube, Riley wandered into his kitchen around 11pm and decided the standard Indomie preparation simply wasn’t going to cut it anymore.
“Bourdain would never just eat it out of the bowl like that” he explained.
"It really doesn't take that much effort to level up the things we eat"
The packet noodles were soon transferred to a proper ceramic bowl and topped with a fried egg, spring onion, chilli crisp and a few leftover bits of chicken he found in the fridge.
He then ate the meal standing over the kitchen bench while watching a 14 minute video of Bourdain eating noodles in Myanmar.
Friends say the phase has already begun spreading into all corners of Riley's life, with the 29 year oldd suddenly expressing a desire to visit Laos, purchase a proper chef’s knife and sus out that little hole in the wall place somewhere in Western Sydney.
Friends expect the obsession to last upto another fortnight before he returns to ordering food delivery every other day and eating Nutrigrain for dessert.
However, a newly purchased bottle of fish sauce suggests Bourdain's influence still has at least one more weekend in him.
