A second-generation migrant businessmen who only hires first generation migrant workers, says that he is being wooed by One Nation's promises to rid his electorate of anyone who looks like him or his employees.
Speaking to the Betoota Advocate ahead of this weekend's Farrer By-Election, local fruit grower Porl De Luca says he's still not sure who he's going to vote for.
In three days, the people of rural South-West NSW will go to the polls to vote for the next local MP.
The bookies say it will be a race between a local community-backed Independent candidate named Michelle Milthorpe, or the shape-shifting ex Labor man turned One Nation candidate David Farley.
Porl says he's torn.
"There's been a lot of noise about the fact that we have a catastrophic hospital bed shortage in the region" he says
"Or the fact that all of our local schools are asbestos traps that have been ignored by successive Federal Governments"
"Or the fact that the entire Murray-Darling has been bought and sold by white collar criminals who made millions off water licenses"
However, Porl says there's a few policies that have won him over in the last few days.
"To be honest, One Nation are starting to win me over with their firm position on shutting down immigration and deporting anyone who doesn't look like a Melbourne Demons fans"
"First, the One Nation candidate was saying that he wanted more immigrants, but then he got a clip on the ear from Pauline and Barnaby, so now he's saying he wants less"
Porl says he's not sure which way he's gonna vote on Saturday, but says it's important to think about the bigger picture.
"I've often tossed and turned in my bed at night thinking about how immigration is causing all the problems that our country has. I truly sympathise with outer-suburban Australians struggling with such a competitive housing market"
"We cannot let our country turn into a rich tapestry of different cultures with different skills and cuisine. My hometown of Griffith is fine just the way it is!"
