Fremantle Really Hoping To Prove They Are Also Good At Sport

The port city of Fremantle is this week desperately seeking to add another nice chapter to its story.

The city that is part of the city of Perth (but is very much its own city okay!) is hoping to do so by finally winning an AFL flag.

12 years after their last and only bite at the cherry, the Fremantle Dockers will take on the Brisbane Lions in what will be a historic result for whoever wins.

While the historically more decorated Brisbane Lions are searching for a second 3 peat, the Dockers are hoping to secure their first ever title - and prove to the rest of the nation that they are also pretty good at sport too.

This comes off the back of the former penal colony churning out headline act after headline act - in what has lead to many experts hypothesising that there is certainly something in the water out west.

From the current global headliner Tame Impala to icons like Eskimo Joe, Spacey Jane, San Cisco, Pond and John Butler - Freo have long established themselves as being quite the musical exporter.

Fuelled by Emu Export, dexxies and formative stints at WAPA the Golden West has a long and proud history of cultural relevancy.

However, the sporting relevance has stayed North of the Swan since Freo's inception in 1994.

That's now something fans of this year's minor premiers are hoping to change.

Contacted for comment on the matter, prominent Dockers fan Kevin Parker refused to give us much.

"Nup, I don't wanna say anything that could put the mocker on us in anyway," he said, before accusing The Advocate of being sent by the Lions organisation.

"No comment."
