The Liberals and Nationals are this week facing the music, after a rather rough weekend at the polls in rural NSW.
New found Liberal leader Matt Canavan has fronted the camera's at Parliament House to explain things are actually looking good for him and his colleagues.
Kitted out with the swag he slept in for a few days in Farrer (as if anyone gives a flying fuck where the bloke sleeps as some weird PR stunt), Canavan told The Advocate that the numbers are actually pretty tasty.
"We absolutely wiped the floor with the Legalise Cannabis Australia party," said the Nationals Leader in reference to their traditional rivals.
"Like smoked them haha!"
"How's that for a pun."
Canavan's comments come after the Liberal and National candidates pulled a whopping 20% of the first preference vote, in the seat that they'd held for over 80 years.
The stunning performance was lapped by One Nation, who pulled nearly 40% of first preference vote and stormed home to win their first ever lower house seat.
The win was helped by the Liberals and Nationals giving their preferences to the party destroying their voter base and completely eroding their standing in the community.
The result will likely keep pushing the Coalition to the right, to replicate the success of One Nation in a rural electorate of largely low socio-economic white people who skew on the older side - that will definitely work across the country over a sustained period of time.
More to come.
