Magic Round has once again arrived in the River City - as all of Brisbane waits excitedly for the whistle to be blown this Friday night.

The entire NRL, apart from the Raiders, are currently pulling into Brisbane Airport on packed flights full of young men taking part in bucks parties.

Every team will battle it out on the same patch of hallowed turf at Suncorp Stadium for three day - as the pubs, nightclubs and fast food diners of inner-city Brissy print money.

However, it's not just young men having the time of their lives.

There's also middle-aged men taking part in the same style of high-octane pub silliness.

And middle aged women.

Dorothy Rhubarb (53) is one of thousands of middle-aged Queensland women that have descended upon Brisbane's inner north this weekend, to see what they can rustle up.

And for the first time ever, this cohort of Magic Round Revellers are being directly catered to by the iconic Caxton Hotel, who have set up a VIP 'Cougar Lounge' for them to perch up and size up the young bucks that wander in.

Cougar is a universally recognised term of endearment for older women who seek and succeed in getting a leg over with significantly younger men.

However, Dorothy and her girlfriends are the Queensland version, colloquially known as 'Cockatoos' - due to their cropped hairstyles and penchant for wearing all white.

However, they can also be seen in leopard or zebra print, and sometimes even mink fur. Regardless, Cockatoos can usually be identified by their opening question - which is inevitably 'How tall are you!?'.

Dorothy says in the 12 months since her last Magic Round pilgrimage, another couple girlfriends have 'bitten the dust' and parted ways with their boring husbands, in the search for more virile pastures.

"They've got a rosè tap and shirtless waiters lined up for us, I believe" says an excited Dorothy.

Dorothy says it's always exciting to see the rich tapestry of NRL fans that end up mingling with her entourage.

"Who knows, with round between the Bulldogs and the Sharks. Chances are there will be a fair few studs looking for a distraction ..."

"A bit of Lebanese could be on the menu, If you know what I mean"
