A sporting fairytale is emerging in the AFL this September.

After weeks of daunting conversations about toxic behaviours and much needed cultural shifts - it appears that the Sydney Swans are only benefiting from sacking 5 of their best players after allegations of criminal conduct and general piggery.

It is like something out of a sports comedy movie - as ‘The Replacements’ seem to be rising to the occasion.

In their second match since the serious off-field scandal, The ‘Sydney Swaps’ have minced the Brisbane Lions and set up a home preliminary final with a 53-point win at the SCG.

After years of near misses and grand final chokes, the Sydney Swans had once again been written off after star players Isaac Heeney, Chad Warner, Nick Blakey, James Jordon and Riley Bice were all stood down for breaching club standards last month.

While allegations of sexual misconduct and unbridled cocaine consumption are still under investigation, what can be confirmed is that these young men made the moronic decision to go on an all-night bender in an extremely indiscreet location, in the centre of the only city where they would be universally recognised sports stars, to celebrate their round 23 victory over the a team that is placed at the bottom of the ladder.

Even the most chauvinistic members of the boys club that is AFL media have struggled to defend this stupidity - just weeks out from the finals, with the club securing second place in the entire competition.

However, it seems that booting the alleged offenders has only seen the Sydney club continue to thrive, as they chalk up two comprehensive wins from two matches.

With an array of bush footy ring-ins and half cooked tradies being recruited to make up the numbers, the Sydney Swaps appear to have dissected the yips from their playing group, and their fans are now staring down the prospect of going to the grand final with a couple of young fellas that have played less than ten AFL matches before running out for the Big Dance.

Can the replacements!
