Local middle manager and noted productivity enthusiast, Gary Johnson, has today been informed to keep his little KPI-covered mitts off an international icon.

The Betoota Old City District boss has been told by a couple of members of staff, to ‘not even think about it,’ when it comes to the World Cup.

“Every four years mate,” laughed Peter Zelinski to The Advocate this morning, a second generation Polishman who is kind of glad to have the Socceroos as his sole focus this time around.

“And yeah, maybe it might be a littttleeeee bit longer this time around because of FIFA’s love of the dollar.”

“But it’s an institution that needs to be respected.”

Zelinski’s comments come as the broadcaster SBS, (thank god there’s no more Optus Sport) has unveiled the World Cup Watchers’ Rights Association (WRA).

The union’s mandate is simple: nothing, absolutely nothing, not even that "urgent" spreadsheet or a Thursday WIP, should ever get in the way of a Group K game between Uzbekistan and Colombia.

Leading the charge as Executive Chair is Nick Mohammed, aka Nate the Great from Ted Lasso - who has enlisted the likes of Matt Okine and Lydia Williams ‘to come have a chat’ if any bosses like Gary try to bar the World Cup from the good working people of the country.

"If Gary thinks he can stop the beautiful game with a strongly worded email about 'deliverables', he’s dreaming," said an anonymous colleague of Peter’s signing into his SBS on Demand on one of the office teles.

“It’s the vibe mate.”

“The institution.”

“The right to have sport on the tele.”

“It will actually probably boost productivity if anything,” he laughed.

“Maybe.”
