A city-based professional has returned home this week to find that his old mates are on the cocaine these days and they've traded up the vapes for black market smokes, which has left him both shocked and concerned over the general well-being of his once sleepy hometown.
Saturday night out on the main drag of Yaraka, a bustling inland metropolis situated near other cosmopolitan outer Barcoo villages such as Isisford and Jundah, was less sleepy than usual.
Revellers from all over the district had come into dine at the many restaurants, enjoy a cocktail at a trendy small bar or enjoy a show at the fabled Yaraka Closed-Air Opera House. The pub was full to bursting as the Wallabies took on the French down in Brisbane.
Witnessing this spectacle first hand was former Yaraka resident turned city worker Kent Avery, who told The Advocate things sure had changed around town since he was last there.
"Hmmmmm..... yes....... It's pretty busy up there on the main street now, isn't it? Hmmmmmmm," he said.
"You'd seldom believe your own eyes if you kept seeing the same things I did over the weekend in town, hmmmmmm. I saw boys doing the cocaine out in the open, using the keys, I'd never known a young man to carry keys around here before. Hmmmm,"
"And you wouldn't believe it, the boys and smoking smokes that look like the packets from years ago, they are, but. Hmmmmmm. No pictures of people's rotten insides, they looked bloody choy-yan-ese [sic], they did. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, very troubling!"
When asked by our reporter if he was indeed shocked and concerned for the future of Yaraka, given what he'd seen. Kent nodded but opted to just say nothing. A blessing somewhat considering the above took him 320 seconds to say.
More to come.
