While both major parties claim to agree that renewable energy will play a crucial role in Australia's energy future, as both state and federal government strive to meet net zero carbon emissions by 2050, there is a vein of political discourse within the Australian media and conservative political class that think wind power technologies will not play an important role in the global renewable energy mix.

Their reasoning is, that they are ugly.

This is the most recent of many arguments against wind turbines. As climate change becomes more and more evident in regional Australia - through record-breaking floods, bushfires and poor harvests - opponents of this kind of energy infrastructure have had to pivot in their messaging.

Another irrefutable fact is that Australian voters continue to keep electing an increasing number of pro-climate action candidates are elected to Parliament as Independents in once blue-ribbon Liberal seats. Therefore, State and Federal Coalition must be seen to accept the science that was first flagged by 99% of the world's scientists well before our social media algorithms started telling us they were liars.

After four decades spent disputing the irrefutable science of climate change, the opponents of renewable energy now have no option but to delve into conversation around aesthetics.

While One Nation's candidates are still content arguing that global warming is a Jewish conspiracy created by George Soros to make billionaire mining barons suffer, the last remaining National Party MPs are attempting to thread the needle that wind farms should be a cause for concern when it comes to wildlife conservation - something they have never previously cared about when it came to turning the North-West Shelf and Bowen and Surat Basins into a pin cushion of gas wells.

But above all else, these ugly fucking things are ruining the vista!

Who cares if the Europeans views these turbines as the modern day smoke stacks of industrial innovation and a scientific triumph.

Who cares if the farmers that host these things on their farms are keeping very quiet in between their holiday houses in Yamba and Niseko.

The fact remains, wind turbines just don't blend in as well to the Australian landscape as Gina Rinehart's 8000-hectare regional Australian open-cut mines and quarries that are covered in 10 metre tall graders blowing several metric tonnes of silt on the surrounding vineyards and local communities and causing extreme medical issues for the elderly and children and who are disproportionately represented for preventable illneses due to the lack of investment in their towns and regions because it's easier to fly blokes in from the canal suburbs of the Gold Coast rather than have to deal with their bitch wives at town hall meetings.
