Australia is still well and truly in the midst of World Cup Fever despite a minor hiccup in our second Group D match over the weekend.
Despite the age-old divisions between domestic football codes, Australia has once again proven that they can and do understand how beautiful 'soccer' can be - especially when played at such an elite level.
The same cannot be said for the American fans, who despite defeating the Socceroos over the weekend, are only getting around the world cup because it's being played at home.
America has advanced to the knockout round of the FIFA World Cup after beating Australia 2-0 on Saturday morning for their second straight victory in new and expanded 48-team tournament.
Paraguay then beat Turkey 1-0 later in the weekend, meaning the U.S. have officially won Group D.
These results have left the entire football world just frustrated as Australia - as it is generally acknowledged that supporters of the American side are not real fans.
This is most evident when looking at the name of the American team, which is known only as USMNT (United States Men's National Team). Unlike the Australian side, which has been known as 'The Socceroos' since 1967.
On top of this, it is extremely obvious to visiting football fans that the American supporters do not know when to cheer, and spend most of the matches taking selfies and talking to eachother.
It is for this reason that the USMNT crowds have been dismissed by Australians as 'The Sydney Swans fans of soccer' - meaning they are fanbase riding high on the coincidental success of their own team, despite the fact that many of them do not support the game outside of the much-hyped games that are hosted in their own backyard.
Australia, meanwhile, will continue to wake up in the middle of the night to cheer on our team from extremely inconvenient timezones, win or lose.
It is believed that Australian Socceroos fans are now evening considering calling the sport 'football' to distance themselves from the American bandwagoners.
