A local father has spent the past two days resting and relaxing after being without his two children and wife for the first time.
Shaun Lee, a 35-year-old senior network engineer at the South Betoota Polytechnic School, spoke to The Advocate yesterday evening at the Gelded Seahorse Hotel in the French Quarter, where he was enjoying what looked like a few “solo phone jugs”.
A “solo phone jug” is the act of purchasing a jug of beer, asking for two glasses, before retiring to a lightly-trafficked part of the hotel or club to consume the whole thing while looking at things on a phone. Things such as Facebook Marketplace bargains, TikTok rot or the equivalent on Instagram.
Nevertheless, Lee was happy to join our reporter’s table and begin regaling the group with tales of what he’s been up to these past couple nights.
“Yeah, nah, I haven’t been away from my family ever. Not since the youngest was born, that was about four five weeks ago,” he said.
He took a sip but missed his mouth for the first little bit, leaving some beer to run down the front of his tasteful Etnies zip hoodie.
“I linked up with a few blokes last night from school, on a Monday night, and we ended up going mad, actually. We had about 10 pints down the road at the Bar Le Branlette and ended up heading over the road to the Night Shift and stayed there until about 3am. One of the guys I was with had a full blown epileptic fit, too. Pretty ordinary thing to look up but we didn’t let it ruin our night. We were lucky the bouncers didn’t see what happened. He got up and brushed himself off and resumed doing the robot. I reckon the smoke machine helped hide him and the music was fucken loud, too,”
“Anyway, I woke up in the park this morning with nothing in my pockets. That was pretty distressing but I didn’t let it ruin my vibe. Walked home and broke into my own place. Had to punch a window in but I’ll claim that on insurance. I’m thinking I might not get paralytic drunk tonight, I might just have a few pints and then do some light cleaning at home, maybe fill the fridge with pizzas or something. It’ll be OK.”
More to come.
