Young Harrison Hemmes has impressed his older cousins for the first time in his life this week.

The 14-year-old from Betoota’s Flight Path District has done so after clocking up over 500 likes on a seemingly run of the mill profile picture.

His staggering results come as part of a relatively unknown phenomenon to anyway born before the turn of the century, whereby teenagers seem to rack up copious amounts of likes for seemingly mundane content for a reason, unknown to social media demographers and analysts.

“What the fuck Harrison,” asked his older cousin Sam (26), who once managed to notch up a ton for what he thought was an extremely funny and well-curated picture of a once in a lifetime event.

“How do you have 500 likes on that profile picture,” he continued at a small family gathering last night.

Harrison, seemingly confused by the sudden attention, shrugged like most 14 year old’s do, and failed to offer much in the way of interpersonal and conversation skills.

“Nah seriously though,” continued his genuinely baffled older relative, throwing to the other older relatives, all of whom haven’t cracked a 50+ on Facebook since Malcolm Turnbull was Prime Minister.

Harrison then tried to explain, that he isn’t really sure, ‘but like, he has nearly 2000 friends on Facebook, and people just like the photo.’

“People just like it,” Harrison said, blissfully unaware of the thought that a lot of older people put into whether or not they should like some content based upon their friendship with that person, the result of their last conversation, how many other people have liked it, and a short visual arts’ lesson worth of interpreting what the person is trying to say and does or doesn’t say in the photo before hitting that L button.

His older relatives then began laughing to each other.

“There aren’t 500 people at your school for Christ’s sake,” continued Sam.

“Yeah, how is that even possible. Honestly,” chimed in another.

“There are people who are paid full-time salaries who can’t generate that many likes in a month, and you’ve done it for some stupid photo you took months ago.”
