The Federal Government of Australia has once again offered up a really nice piece of politics, in place of some really nice policy.
This comes after the government announced the perfectly timed fuel excise which has taken the steam out of the opposition and will play well in polling numbers and focus groups across the country - after letting a significant number of voters get worked up just enough, to be thankful to the government action.
However, while it's a nice idea to get few cents off the dollar for a few months, cheaper petrol for the punters will of course be subsidise by the punters.
While something like windfall resources tax would pay for something like this in a heartbeat, the cuts to the full excise have been brought in with the cost to be absorbed nicely into the budget - which isn't subsidised adequately by the giant fossil fuel companies pillaging our national resources.
Economists have also warned that artificially bringing down the price of fuel which has been artificially inflated by people panic buying and Australia's fuel reserves being on the other side of the world.
Many have warned that it will continue to fuel inflation, which will leave the Reserve Bank with no other option other than to raise interest rates.
However, for the government of the hour, it's moved the dial nicely with voting patterns that continues to shift further and further towards independents and minor parties.
More to come.
