Yesterday's leader of the Federal Opposition has been left to contemplate where it all went wrong today.

Sussan Ley, the former leader of the federal Liberal Party has today confirmed she is quitting politics after being rolled by Angus Taylor in a leadership spill this morning.

Wasting no time in pondering over whether she wants to represent the people who elected her to parliament as a backbencher, Ley has confirmed she's throwing in the towel.

The move to quit the parliament will trigger a bi-election in the seat of Farrer in South Western NSW.

Ley has yet to confirm her plans post politics, with the one time Liberal leader more than likely to end up in a nice role in the private sector somewhere.

However, it has been confirmed that politicising one of the worst days in Australian history to try and score cheap points might not be the best play for long term success in politics.

It's also been confirmed that waiting less than 12 hours to blame the incident on Anthony Albanese before furiously and noisily demanding parliament be returned and Royal Commission be called, before blocking the rushed legislation parliament was called back for, and then having to fold on that and pass the legislation to the fury of the noisy online commentators you were trying to impress which leads to revolt in your own coalition which breaks up your political party and destabilises your leadership is also not the smartest maneuver.

"Yeah, I don't know, maybe actually trying to come up with meaningful policy that appeals to a growing class of disillusioned Australians might be a better play," mused one local punter at the Flight Path Pie Van this morning.

"Rather than just noisy culture wars shit that just boosts the polling numbers of your current biggest competitor, One Nation."

"But what the hell do I know."
