Bronte Lee is feeling a little bit crushed this morning after noticing a child at the bus stop was the owner of a phone much newer and advanced than her own.
The 26 year old says she doesn't know whether to interpret the observation as a critique of the child’s parents or just herself.
“I mean, on the one hand, why the fuck are you giving an 8 year old an iPhone 15,” she said.
“But then on the other, why have I, a fully employed financially independent 26 year old not bought myself a phone that doesn’t spend 10 minutes trying to load a safari browser,”
“Like for fucks sake. My phone still has a home button. That little kid probably wouldn’t even know how to use it if he tried,”
“Or actually he probably could work it out because they’re all little iPad baby tech wizards these days.”
And although Bronte says she’s tried to label herself as resourceful, and sustainable, and anti-consumerist as an excuse to hold onto her 8 year old iPhone SE, today’s incident may be the wake-up call she needed.
“I’d say I’m frugal, my mates would probably say I’m a stinge. But yeah. It would be good to have a phone that doesn’t die after 20 minutes outside the house,”
“But still, that child should not have that phone. It’s not a toy,”
“Fuck me I sound like my Mum. This is what seeing that has done to me.”
More to come.
