A local man sleeping on a Sheetlets mattress on the floor has assured his cousin that the HSC isn't nearly as important as everyone makes it out to be.
Brayden Mitchell (28), delivered the advice at a family barbecue on Sunday, shortly after asking his mum whether she still had his old back up Xbox controller in storage.
“Mate, once you get out into the real world, nobody asks what ATAR you got,” he told his cousin Josh, who is currently in the middle of his HSC.
“It's all about who you know, thats this all works.”
Brayden, who knows a bloke who might be able to get his younger cousin a great job wrapping posters around street signs, says schools place too much emphasis on academic achievement.
He believes young people should instead focus on developing practical skills, backing themselves and having a crack.
“Look at me. I didn't even finish Year Twelve and I'm doing alright.”
The statement was delivered while his mother transferred him eighty dollars for an electricity bill.
Josh says he appreciates the reassurance, although he remains unsure what his cousin does during the week.
“He said he's got a few things in the pipeline,” Josh explained.
“Then he asked if my school laptop could run Photoshop because he's thinking about starting a clothing brand.”
Brayden maintains that university is a waste of money and that most successful people never followed the conventional path.
He then listed billionaires who didn't go to uni as proof of its uselessness.
