A local woman is expected to make a long phone call to her mother this evening after clocking her husband making some concerning decisions.

Preparing to head out the door to catch her usual 8:25am bus into the Betoota CBD, 38 year old marketing manager Rachel Brady was confused when she saw her hubby Darren on the couch in his jimmy jams, streaming a YouTube vodcast talking about “touchdown predictions”.

Given most Mondays Darren would be out the door by 7am to get to his job as a construction supervisor,  Rach started prodding about what inspired him to take, what looked to be, a sickie.

“Are you feeling alright, are you taking a sick day?” Rachel queried, noting Darren hadn’t gotten out of his Best & Less boxers, “You seemed perfectly fine on the weekend?”

With his eyes rapidly flicking between his iPhone and three blokes on the TV talking about gambling markets, Darren huffed loudly, agitated that his wife had disrupted his chance to craft the perfect same-game multi.

“Nah it’s the Super Bowl babe, you know how much I love the Super Bowl,” Darren mumbled, as he switched his attention to his laptop to read a blog about first touchdown stats.

“Well, are you going to watch it with anyone?” Rach pushed, nodding at all the empty seats in the lounge.

“Nah just me, I asked all the boys to come over but they all said they were busy, with their jobs…”

Knowing that Darren recently went on a marketplace flurry to sell his road bike and some power tools, Rach simply nodded, before making a mental note that maybe they needed to talk about the amount of attention he’d been giving to his phone of late.

“It’s like no one wants to have fun anymore, Darren added, as his cortex continued to melt over the millions of betting options that sat in the palm of his hand, “Some people really need to get a life…”

More debt to come.
