A local man has decided to run with the fish n’ chips option this afternoon, after failing to be enticed by a pub’s Melbourne Cup special.
Settling into the beer garden with colleagues at the Railway Hotel in downtown Betoota, it’s understood Jason Vidic (36) has just forked out $32 for a pub serving of deep fried dolphin and chips.
A well known tight arse, who’s usually sniffing around the specials board in any pub he’s sitting in, it’s believed Jason’s been forced to pay full freight for his dinner today, after being put off by the Railway’s $20 Melbourne Cup Special.
“I know the Mongolians eat horse, but I’ve never seen it on a burger in Australia,” mused Jason, nodding to the AI made poster which seemed to suggest the Railway was serving up thoroughbred burgers.
“They’re under new management here, but god it’s a bit grim.”
With the pub beginning to pile in with local corporates who are planning to take the afternoon off, The Advocate can report that the kitchen at The Railway is flat out, dishing up plates upon plates of anything but burgers.
Speaking to the sous chef, Blair Edwards, the pub’s reportedly never seen so many orders of vegetarian and vegan meals.
“No idea what’s up with the crowd today, I’ve got 12 orders for the salt n’ pepper calamari, nine bowls of wedges and six lentil salads.”
“Not a single person is biting on the steak, or rissoles or even burger special, I thought I priced it well!”
