A local man is reportedly exploring a future in finance after securing what he has described as a “highly strategic acquisition” at his nearest Dan Murphy’s – leading some to speculate that he might just be the next Scott Pape.

The breakthrough came late yesterday afternoon, when 34-year-old weekend punter Liam Hargreaves capitalised on a 15% discount on a case of imported beer ahead of an upcoming trip away. A move he says demonstrates “strong instincts in volatile markets”.

Best known among friends for drinking whatever happens to be cheapest at happy hour, the up-and-coming guru says this latest play marks a clear evolution in his financial thinking.

“This isn’t just beer,” he clarified. “This is an international asset.”

According to friends, the fact that this cheap case of beers originated in Italy does indeed add an extra layer of sophistication to the purchase.

“He’s basically diversifying,” said a source close to Liam. “Got a bit of Europe in the portfolio now.”

Liam, unsurprisingly, had the final word. “Mumma Mia, aye,” laughed the local entrepreneur, who is now considering offering his unrivalled insights as part of a 12-week online program. “I just knew I was making the right call. Few things taste better than a drop you know came all the way from the old country – especially when it’s a practically a steal.”

Friends say Liam has already begun workshopping the name of the course, tentatively titled From Six-Pack To Six Figures, aimed at helping everyday Australians spot value – for five installments of $299. Of course, you could also just visit your local Dan Murphy’s store for free.

No more to come. #ad
