If they weren’t already, the federal Liberal Party has officially become public enemy number 1 of the nation's girlies after dumping their first female leader on Valentines Day eve.
In a momentous move, Angus Taylor will become the leader of what’s left of the Liberal Party after mounting a successful spill motion, Taylor won the leadership contest with 34 votes to Ley’s 17.
After electing Ley just nine short months ago it seemed like maybe the Liberal Party were responding to the existential crisis they face with a voting block that makes up roughly 50 per cent of society; women.
The Teal independent movement which promoted competent, climate focussed female candidates turned out to be incredibly successful, winning unthinkable seats in what was once Liberal heartland.
Rather than looking to those results as a learning experience the Liberal party has today shown its true colours, reinstalling another faceless middle aged white dude in a suit who will talk about returning to the Menzies / Howard era of the Liberal party that no one is asking for.
Instead of returning to the centre where there are actual votes to be won the party has ditched a decent moderate Liberal woman, on the eve of love no less.
As one local self described girlie living in the seat of Farrer where Ley’s resignation has consequently sparked a by-election, said;
“Ley deserves her flowers not a knife in the back, she should have chocolates at her feet not a spill motion.”
“I’ll be voting for the independent at the by-election, the Libs have dogged the girlies too many times now!”
“On Valentine's Day Eve of all days!”
More to come.
