Book week is in full swing across Betoota (and the rest of the country) today, as hordes of young kids dress up in cute costumes and head off to school or day care.

The theme for the 2025 Children’s Book Week is “Book an Adventure!”.

This theme encourages children to explore new worlds, meet memorable characters, and unlock their imaginations through the stories they read.

It’s also the 80th year of the tradition encourages kids to pick up a book and experience the magic of being captivated by a story.

It’s also another year where a significant number of parents take a rather liberal approach to ‘characters’ for the kids to dress up as.

With a raft of Mario’s zipping around (from the famous Mario Kart kids series by esteemed children’s author Enid Blytonelli), Betoota Heights College Year 4 student Jarron Henderson has decided to mix it up by going as an Ender Dragon.

“Yeah, I don’t ever wanna sledge someone for making an effort to get into the theme of book week,” said local teacher Ms Doyle* (name changed for obvious reasons).

“But dressing up as a Dragon from a computer game that is rotting an entire generation of minds,” sighed Ms Doyle.

“Kind of defeats the purpose of Book Week itself right…”

“But what can you do.”

“At least they are getting into the spirit.”
