International Student's Over-The-Top Phone Case Barely Fitting Through Doorway

25-year-old international student Li Xue has a phone case so big she struggles to fit it through most doorways.

The cute Donald Duck themed case, popular among Betoota's international students who enjoy sporting such bulky accessories, has come in at a whopping 6 foot 9 in height.

Residents at the inner-city Betoota Flight Path uni accommodation development say the accessory has added several minutes to every routine task, particularly when navigating the narrow hallways of the building.

“You have to angle it slightly and sort of shuffle sideways” explained one, demonstrating a manoeuvre that resembled moving a fridge up a staircase.

Despite the logistical challenges, Li insists the case is “sooo cute”, noting that it's the harder one to get your hands on compared to the more common Micky Mouse version.

University staff have confirmed the case now occupies its own seat in tutorials after repeatedly setting off the automatic door sensors.

“At first we thought it was a new exchange student” said a tutor.

“It has a very strong presence in the lecture hall”

Retail experts say the trend towards increasingly large, plush phone cases by East Asian girls on students visa's shows no sign of slowing, with some models now exceeding the size of some cars.

The cases are typically decorated with cartoon characters, pastel colours and objects that serve no clear structural purpose.

"I saw a girl with a big rubber Windex spray and wipe shaped phone case" said a perplexed handy man at the university.

Li remains unfazed by the attention. 

“My phone has never been damaged” she said, while waiting for three people to hold open a set of double doors so she could exit the building.
