A local Toorak via Brunswick man has today opened up to The Betoota Advocate about his huge leap towards ‘financial freedom.’

Hugo Whiteman, a 25-year-old business-law graduate from Deakin University explained to us that he’s decided to make a huge change in pursuit of saving up some coin.

The trust fund recipient from generational family wealth says the cost of living pressure has forced him to get out of the big city.

“Yeah, I’m taking a financial gap year to regional Australia,” said Whiteman.

The move comes as part of the growing trend by Australians to take a year out of the rat race and head bush or overseas to try and earn some money and spend way less.

“Accomodation is just so much cheaper outside of Melbourne,” said Whiteman, quite coy on the fact he’ll be residing in his parents holiday home on the outskirts of Byron.

“Be a great way to save some money so I can finally try and buy a place of my own,” continued the bloke who really doesn’t need to save money to buy a place of his own.

“And I don’t need to get caught up in the lifestyle creep of my contemporaries here in Melbourne.”

“So yeah, it’s going to be really tough for a year leaving all my mates and my family.”

“But thankfully some of them said they are gonna come up and visit and stuff, which is really really nice,” said the soon to be single resident of a large holiday home in a premium holiday destination.

“It’s just a sacrifice that I’ve got to make I guess.”
