A Southern mainlander is today preparing for a big trip away from home.
Moolap Highton (28) is packing his things and making plans to leave the comforts of his hometown for the 3rd time in his life.
The young sparky from Victoria’s regional centre of Geelong says he’s making the scary voyage out of Corio Bay up to the smog of Melbourne this weekend for the Grand Final.
“Yeah, wish me luck up there mate,” said Highton, who was involved in a full blown fist fight with some ‘fuckwit city slickers’ last time he was there.
It’s the first trip outside of Geelong for Highton since 2022, when he made the journey up the highway for the Cats thumping win over perennial chokers the Sydney Swans.
His only other trip outside of Geelong was to Bali, for the ill-fated 2020 Mad Monday end of season trip with his local club.
“Yeah few wild tales from the that one,” he laughed.
“Bloody wild.”
When pressed on the plans for this weekend, the young man says that the excitement outweighs the trepidation.
“Should be a bloody ripper,” said Highton.
“Obviously there’s no place like the Cattery, but the G for the Grand Final against some interstate team is perfect.”
“It’s the only time anyone from Melbourne actually roots for us haha.”
“Can’t wait.”
