A local farmer is laughing all the way to the bank this afternoon after transforming his property into Betoota’s most popular wedding venue.
Situated just 12 minutes outside of town, Brian Donnelly is the third generation cattle farmer, boasting 50,000 hectares of prime agricultural land on the plains of the Diamantina.
However this week Brian has managed to fashion himself a lucrative stream of additional income, by turning his old machinery shed into an adorable wedding venue for local idiots who’ve spent too much time on Pinterest, and want a “country chic” wedding.
After travelling to attend his second cousin’s nuptials in the Byron Hinterlands a month ago, Brian says that was all the inspiration he needed to hose the dead magpies out of the roof of his machinery shed.
“When I found out they’re charging $25k for a shed with some fairylights, it made my eyes water. Thought I better get me some of that new wedding money."
“All it’s taken is a quick hose down of the floor, and throwing a few hay bales in here, I’ve got my first wedding booked next week.”
With his daughter Pip studying Communications at Griffith Uni on the Goldy, it’s believed Brian’s little money spinner is quickly turning into a family enterprise, after gifting her extra pocket money to start getting his venue into the social feeds of Queenslanders looking for a destination wedding.
“Pip has been running the social medias for me. The first wedding is some recipe influencer who’s apparently gonna blast my shed out to hundreds of thousands of followers.”
“I’ve got a these shipping container tiny homes getting dropped off next week to put behind the stockyard, will be able to offer a complete wedding stay and pray package from March next year. We’re on!”
