After spending his childhood on nanna's living room floor, local bloke Luke Bellamy (28) is still very much in the habit of joining his grandmother for a weekly screening of soap operas.
The darling grandson, a succesful finance broker in the city, should be out there enjoying his youth - according to Nanna.
But still, even with the young ladies lining up to be his wife, Luke still makes the effort to escort his grandmother to the local workers club every Tuesday night for an early-bird special and one full hour of the most high-octane rugby league punditry to ever be broadcast on Australian TV.
"They used to have a band playing, or someone singing" says Luke.
"But now they just crank up the NRL360 at full volume and the oldies mainline Gordie and Braith's controversial opinions about concussion protocols and player trade rumours"
Luke says he initially thought that his Nanna just enjoyed the Fox League panel show as background noise, but he's since learnt that she is now actually an avid follower of rugby league gossip and the endless stream of contrarian opinions about embattled players and coaches.
"Oh poor old Braith" Nanna tells our reporters.
"Having to sit their and listen to them talk like that about the players he's managing."
"He's such a dish. I've always said that. My darling grandson Luke actually looks like a young Braith, don't you think?"
With last night's episode featuring fireworks and personal barbs about ageing players sitting out matches to focus on soft tissue recorvery, all the old codgers at Betoota Workies were glued to the screen, as they waited for the chicken shnitzels and curried sausages.
"Oh no, Gordie" said Nanna.
"Not again"
"He's got to watch that famous temper of his. I know he means well, but he's just such a hot head"
