Brisbane Lions And Broncos Finals Domination Has QLD Premier Feeling Bold Enough To Take On Mining Lobby

The south-east corner is buzzing this week, as the Brisbane Lions head to Melbourne for their third AFL grand final in a row, and potential second flag on the bounce.

On top of this, the bad boys of the NRL – the sexed up Brisbane Broncos are tipped as the only football club capable of ending the Penrith Panthers dynasty – and will be fighting tooth and nail to extinguish their possible 5th-premiership chances at Suncorp Stadium this Sunday.

This comes off the back of a glorious game III decider in the 2025 State Of Origin series, that saw an underestimated and denigrated Maroons deliver one of the most elite 80 minutes of rugby league in the history of the game to wrap up the series in Queensland’s favour.

With swathes of young Queenslanders making names for themselves at the athletics world championships in Tokyo this week, it has become very apparent that counting out the people of Sunshine State is never a wise thing to do.

And now with a Brisbane Olympics not even 7 years away, this winning culture is bleeding into the political arena.

‘The Queensland Spirit’ has transformed into a major inconvenience for the Australian political class, as the State’s Premier begins doing things that conservative leaders should never do.The Queensland Premier David Crisafulli is resisting pressure his Federal colleagues and the mining lobby to scrap his state’s coal royalties regime, insisting he will keep a pre-election commitment to maintain the status quo.

Crisafulli, an LNP leader himself, is refusing to bow to the forces that have puppeteered conservative politics for nearly 30 decades.

With BHP threatening to cut jobs because ‘it’s not worth the investment’ and Nationals leader David Littleproud desperately calling for a review, the Queensland Premier is calling the mining lobby’s bluff and will not be moved by claims that he was edging the market towards “crisis point” by forcing the mining giants to pay royalties for the resources they recklessly pillage from the Queensland earth.

“We are not interested in fair-weather friends who come running for the dollars when things are good and then abandon Queenslanders in the name of shareholder interests,” he said.

“Now stop your fucking whinging and pay up”
