In a touching story from Betoota Heights, a local Coles employee has received a lovely gift from his bosses today.

Walking in for another day of work on something a touch over a minimum wage, Albert Simpson was greeted by one of his managers, who handed him over a bespoke little ‘Thank You’ badge, for all of his work on the front line during the pandemic.

Like many other large corporations who make billions of dollars in profits off the lowly paid labor of their employees, Coles decided to gift the Betoota Heights team the badges after meeting all of their KPIs and rising to the workload of the pandemic.

Those badges go with ‘bonuses’ of a couple of hundred dollars for all of their work during the pandemic.

The 24-year-old graduate who planned to take a year off between university and plugging into the system until he retires (hopefully), said he was really pleased with the little badge and it makes up for having to risk his health on stagnated wages.

“I don’t want a pay rise or anything now,” said the young man who was also handed a $2 scratchie by one of Wesfarmer’s minions.

“Stacking shelves and dealing with abusive customers who often show very little care for personal hygiene – there’s or mine – is all worth it now that I have been given this nice badge.”

“The extra couple of hundred bucks which amounts to an extra 20 or 30 cents an hour in bonuses is something, but it’s the gesture of recognition that means the most to me.”

“I heard they are giving out free coffee vouchers if you make it through the year!”
