An Australian man on holiday in Thailand has made the catastrophic decision of wearing out thongs during peak wet season.

“This is the most foolish footwear decision I have ever made in my life” said Jason Kole (28), who had been squatting under a bridge for the past 2 hours in an attempt to wait out the torrential downpour.

Jason, who has never visited South East Asia before, naively assumed thongs would be a perfectly comfortable form of footwear for the trip.

“It’s 32 degrees up there, how bad could it actually be?” Jason said moments before packing exclusively thongs into his luggage.

Upon arrival, Jason was filled with instant regret, as the already chaotic and difficult to navigate streets of Bangkok were made even worse with slippery, wet and blister inducing thongs.

Additionally, Jason has struggled to find a solution, as the 6ft1 Australian man has struggled to find any shoes actually in his size in the land of smiles.

Locals watched in mild amusement as Jason performed what could only be described as a one man slapstick routine, slipping and  his way through Sukhumvit like an Australian remake of Bambi.

“I thought the biggest culture shock would be the food or the traffic, not the fact that my feet are completely shrivled from being wet for the past 10 hours” he added.

He has since been spotted browsing knock-off Nike TNS the MBK Center.
