As social media discussions continue to shift away from convicted sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and his associates, many have been left wondering when his name will dominate the front pages of news sites again.
This comes as a slew of political assassinations and pop culture controversies have shifted the social media algorithms, resulting in less interest in the release of the Epstein files.
These files are said to include many high profile names who have visited Epstein’s island, which is renowned for a number of crimes involving underage girls.
In July this year, The Wall Street Journal published a damning report on Epstein’s connections with US president Donald Trump, revealing that the two were not only close associates, but that Trump had even sent Epstein a cryptic card for his 50th birthday.
The card contained a crude drawing of a woman’s figure, with Trump’s signature incorporated as the pubic hair.
A series of cryptic lines hinted at salacious activities, concluding with a line that read ‘may every day be another wonderful secret.’
The revelations sent social media into a frenzy, with #EpsteinFiles trending for weeks on Reddit and X.
This image was then circulated on social media again last week, as the White House reported it would support a forensic analysis of Trump’s signature on the letter.
The controversy became so persistent that Trump sued Murdoch owned media for publishing what he called a ‘false, malicious, and defamatory story’, insisting that the Epstein file saga was the creation of political opponents.
Previously, Trump had promised during his presidential campaign to release all documents compiled during the investigation into Epstein.
Though calls for the release of the files reached a fever pitch following the damning findings released on the Wall Street Journal, social media algorithms have since shifted attention to other controversies.
Now, with multiple political crises unfolding and the Epstein files once again taking a back seat, recent developments, such as the September 10 senate vote which saw republicans block the forced release of the Epstein files, have gone largely underreported.
This has left the public wondering when we can please, please return to investigating what stands to be one of the biggest political cover-ups this century.
More to come.
