A bi-annual fridge clean out has left an all girls sharehouse pondering how majority of their refrigerated food was expired bags of spinach.
The sharehouse which consisted of four women in their late twenties, always took pride in their healthy spinach-filled diets. One of the housemates, Jasmine Reid, if anything, was proud of the amount of iron stocked in their fridge.
“At least it’s not full of mars bars and mini tirimisus, it could be worse you know,” Jasmine explained to our reporter.
The excessive amount of spinach built up over time as there was a lack of understanding of whose spinach was whose.
“If I see an expired packet of spinach I can never remember if it’s mine or not and if it’s not mine I don’t wanna throw it out!”
“Then if I don’t know which is mine I don’t want to eat expired spinach so I just buy a new packet.”
“It’s a vicious cycle,” she added.
The sharehouse fridge hasn’t only experienced spinach trouble but has seen other store bought veggies suffer the same fate.
Another housemate, Beatrice, remembered the time cherry tomatoes ruled the fridge.
“Oh my god we had 8 punnets of cherry tomatoes at one point,” Beatrice recalled.
“I think it was when Anna Paul’s Turkish pasta went viral,” she added.
In the future, the girls hope to keep track of their spinach problem and toss out bags when they expire.
“Yeah look we’ll probably try to label them for a week or two but let’s be real that is not gonna last.”
