Dutton’s campaign team are already popping the champagne after the Opposition Leader finally said something that middle-class, everyday Australians can relate to: dodging questions about whether or not they helped their children get their foot into the property market.
Peter Dutton, who has an extensive property portfolio, was today challenged on whether he was going to help his kids buy a home.
Like millions of upper-middle-class parents, the Opposition Leader perfectly ducked and weaved the question without admitting to helping his kids out.
Voters around the country have said this is the first time in a long time they’ve been able to relate to a politician.
“He’s just like me when family members tell me my son is such a success for being able to buy his own home in this economy!” said Lloyd Purdy (62), an upper-middle-class father of three.
“I’ve always found something totally off about the Dutton guy, but today he finally humanised himself as a true wealth-hoarding boomer.”
Another voter said they were moved to tears watching Dutton pretend financial independence runs in the family.
“It’s brave, really,” said Cheryl Parker (58).
“To navigate such a difficult and awkward conversation – it’s inspiring.”
Economists have praised Dutton’s evasiveness, calling it “textbook generational wealth denial.”
Meanwhile, young Australians continue juggling multiple jobs and side hustles online just to scrape together enough for a share house on the fringe of the city.
