Wallabies star Kurtley Beale has taken to social media overnight to defend his decision to crowdfund money for a fishing trip this weekend.
RA jettisoned the devout Mt Druitt fisherman after he was found guilty of a “high-level breach” of the rugby union players’ code, after it was revealed that he doesn’t wear RM Williams boots on the weekend – opting for a more comfy GAZMAN loafer.
In response to his employer’s criticism of his relaxed lifestyle, Beale announced if was going fishing and there was nothing youse could do about it.
Since then, the 30-year-old has set up a GoFundMe page asking members of the public to donate $3 million to his weekend’s plans of casting a line off Brighton Le-Sands over a big box of prawns and a carton of Crown Golds.
“Fanga might come to he reckons” Kurtley Beale told his supporters in a campaign video.
“Foley too aye. He’s a maybe”
The move has sparked fierce criticism of the aspirational rugby union star, with many claiming he should fund his weekend activities with his own money.
Drew Mitchell, who played with Kurtley for the Wallabies at the 2015 Rugby World Cup, described the star as “greedy” in a tweet on Friday, saying he was disgusted Kurtley was hitting up the everyday punter for a loan derr.
“YOU are raising money for a fishing trip YOU chose to go on after YOU decided that YOU could go a few beers and a wet line. It’s no longer about fishing, it’s about YOU and YOUR greed.” wrote Mitchell.
Kurtley Beale will appear on Alan Jones’ radio show tomorrow morning to discuss his weekend plans and why his new low-drag Shimano is the most important thing in his life.
