Young Dad Deeply Regretting His Grand Final Blow Out As Brutal Comedown Coincides With Rate Rise

As a young father of two under four, local quantity surveyor Brett Salsbury (34) doesn't get out much.

It's not that he's a recluse - it's that he can't afford the sleep debt.

With a full time job, a healthy mortgage, two hyperactive young ones and a wife that also works full time - Brett has very little margins for taking the piss.

But at the insistence of his wife, he decided to do just that over the weekend.

"Once a year I convince him to go out with his mates and blow the cobwebs out" says Brett's wife, Ash.

"It usually clears his mind and recharges him"

With enough single mates, and a couple others that could really use it, Brett unveiled an all inclusive itinerary to the boys.

First hey would meet at the pub for a late lunch and then they would watch the AFL grand final, which neither of them really cared that much about but obviously couldn't resist the hype. From there they would pinball around the city - binge drinking and binge gambling in an array of different venues, until they ultimately landed in some sort of a nightclub or karaoke venue - where they would do illegal drugs and humiliate themselves through the art of dance

"He was a shell of a man on Sunday but I could tell he had fun" said Ash.

However, as Brett has now realised, it might not have been the wisest decision to let the dogs out in late weekend of September.

This comes as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) has lifted the cash rate to 4.6 per cent. Tuesday's 0.25 basis point raise, up from 4.35 per cent, brings the cash rate to the highest level since late 2011.

The hike was widely expected by banks and economists, and was unanimous from the RBA Board. In fact, it seems like everyone was aware this would happen except the blokes who decided to get as maggot as humanly possible over the weekend.

"Forget the personal anguish and heart palpitations. I'm thinking long term...." says Brett.

"Do you know how much a schooner costs nowadays? I spent like $700 bucks on the weekend"

Another hike is forecasted before Christmas as the Reserve Bank tries to get tough on inflation after cutting rates last year. Brett has forecasted that he's never hanging out with those mates again and will be sticking to Heaps Normal.
