A blue-haired propellor hat owner and a retired grazier have agreed on something for the first time in recorded history, after pulling into the Lazy Wasp Service Station on Monday afternoon and discovering they had the same complaint.
The complaint was politicians.
The woman, 29, has spent the better part of a decade watching Labor refuse to do anything serious about housing, tax reform or the amount of mining money flowing into Canberra. She voted Greens at the last three elections and has felt betrayed by all of them.
The man, 67, has spent the better part of a decade watching his regional community get stripped of services while One Nation collected his vote and disappeared. He is not sure what he got in return.
Both pulled up to the bowser within minutes of each other and were overheard reaching the same conclusion by our reporter who was also filling up their canary yellow Holden Trax.
"They work for Gina Rinehart, Angus Taylor is a water thief, or something," said the woman.
"They work for the union bosses and that Homes A Prick," said the man.
They shook hands.
Between them they own no investment properties, hold no shares in anything and have never been invited to a fundraising dinner. Neither has received a reply from their local member.
Labor has described the woman as not representative of ordinary Australians. One Nation have described the man as the backbone of this country.
Neither party has a plan or even costed policy to help either of them.
