A young couple in Betoota’s French Quarter are officially out of the honeymoon phase after discovering their sleep habits may be misaligned.
Lisa Hankinson (29) says the issue of new boyfriend Michael Lee’s (31) habit to twitch every 30 seconds in his sleep was not a big deal at first.
However, the young woman, who has in recent weeks found herself scrolling countless online forums titled ‘why do men twitch in their sleep?’, is now finding his tendencies increasingly intolerable.
“One commenter was like ‘everyone twitches in their sleep’. Ok, one; no I don’t. No one has ever told me I twitch in my sleep before, like I think I would know,” she said.
“And two: how am I meant to twitch in my sleep if I can’t sleep in the first place. No sleeping, no twitching.”
“It’s actually fucked though. Michael has a Queen bed, and I’ve only got a double. And usually I’m such an advocate for staying at my place, but for the first time in my life, I’m actually suggesting we should stay at his.”
“Do you know what that means? The twitching is changing my character, my inherent nature. Maybe it’s because I’m getting no sleep. I’m running off fumes. Actually FML.”
Michael, however, says Lisa has a slight tendency to overreact.
“I’m fulllyyy aware I twitch,” he said.
“It’s called a hypnic jerk.”
“But also, I wake up with no blanket. She burritos herself every night. So you know, fair’s fair.”
“I thought it was a bit of a tit for tat situation that we had going on.”
The couple are currently exploring solutions, and are even considering the purchase of a bunk bed.
More to come.
