In unprecedented breaking global news, the man formerly known as Prince Andrew, now known as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested on Thursday morning on suspicion of misconduct in public office
The King Of England's brother has long been criticised for his connections with the convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, but as is often the case with high society criminal networks, the British public had just assumed that the notoriously sleazy Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor would spend the rest of his days living above the law.
However, that all changed overnight with the disgraced former Royal taken into custody - as photographs showed a police operation Sandringham estate. Plainclothes officers are believed to have searched the Norfolk property as well as Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor's former home in the Royal Lodge in Great Windsor Park.
Police are now assessing allegations that Mountbatten-Windsor shared sensitive diplomatic information with Epstein when he was a UK trade envoy.
King Charles expressed his “deepest concern” over the arrest of his younger brother but said the “law must take its course” and police had his “full and wholehearted support and cooperation” - before making his way to an event to mark the start of London Fashion Week.
The rest of the family are understood to support the King’s remarks.
This marks the most public downfall of a British Royal since the beheading of Charles I outside the Banqueting House in London in 1649. While Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was subsequently released under investigation on Thursday evening, it has become clear that any protection racket that may have prevented investigation into his criminal conduct has been dissolved - and he is now fair game for prosecution.
This arrest is just one of many major shifts within the global political class, as the fall-out from the Epstein files continues to permeate around the world.
With the Royal Family now drawing a line in the sand and refusing to provide cover the brazen and entitled criminal behaviour of their former 'problem child' - Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is now running out of options.
The only two institutions that would still protect an offender like him are far less glamorous than the life he had become accustomed to as a Royal dignitary, and many are now questioning whether Andrew has it in him to live a life of frugality while being moved around different dioceses to avoid accountability, furthermore does he have it in him to spend the rest of his life as a high-ranking BBC Television presenter?
