The nation’s girlfriends are reportedly feeling a bit disgruntled today, after realising they’ll have to entertain their boyfriends now that the sports season is over.

After the serenity of a jam-packed year of sport, including the British and Irish Lions rugby tour of Australia, a nail-biter State Of Origin series, and a spectacular finals run for both the NRL and AFL football codes - there is now 7 days of absolute stillness before the summer of cricket starts.

This means a lot of sports blokes now find themselves wandering around the house like a lost Victorian ghost child as they figure out what to do with their lives.

Our reporter speaks to local woman Anna Odsey, who’s already struggling to entertain her sportsball guy.

“He [Jason] doesn’t know what to do with himself. Last time I came home, and he was just staring at the TV”, explains Anna, “but it wasn’t turned on.”

Anna goes on to report that Jason has also just started following her around the house, and at times, has been spotted lying on the couch in a fetal position, looking as though all the world’s troubles rest on his shoulders.

“Now he wants to come to the girls bottomless brunch this weekend. I tell you, I can’t handle it! I never thought I’d ever say this, but I need sports to come back.”

“Somebody save me, please!”

More to come.
