The rest of the free world was met with a puzzled look from the French president after he was asked what, exactly, he was wearing on his face.

"What?"

"Oh these things?

"I've been wearing these for years!" insisted the slightly nervous French president.

Emmanuel Macron, who fronted Davos wearing bright blue, reflective aviators, indoors, insists that the eccentric wardrobe choice came down to a popped blood vessel in his eye.

Despite the burst blood vessel being almost impossible to spot now, Macron swears he needs to keep wearing the aviators for the full length of WEF's Annual 4 day meeting in Davos.

"Do they look badass? Yes. Do I never get a chance to wear them in front of the camera? Yes. Do I need them to cover up a bloodied eye? Also, yes" explained Macron while his wife held his hand in support.

Despite insisting that he always wears those aviators, no one within the French establishment could back up the claim, with many saying they've never even seen him in sunglasses at all, let alone bright blue reflective aviators.

Many in the French press believe Macron might be testing out a daring new look.

Insiders say the blood vessel explanation has now become harder to maintain with each passing day.

Macron has nevertheless doubled down, insisting the injury “looks much worse in person” and warning the French public that the cool aviators may become commonplace for the rest of the year.
