The cultural imperialism of Western Sydney is still keeping a vice-like grip on the hearts and minds of Australia, as the region’s sporting and musical exports continue to dominate the football ladders and ARIA charts.
It appears that The Area’s most famous rap group is weighing up the idea of changing their band name in homage to the Area’s most famous football team.
This comes as the famous Penrith Panthers resuscitate their hopes of a fifth-consecutive NRL premiership with a 46-26 battering of the Canterbury-Bankstown.
The Panthers will now head to Brisbane for a blockbuster preliminary final against the party boy Broncos next Sunday, in what will be a repeat of the 2023 grand final where Penrith secured their fourth Premierships in a row.
Two years later, and they are now sitting on a four-peat, with a five-peat looking increasingly likely.
Meanwhile it can be confirmed that Western Sydney’s famous rap group, OneFour, is still riding high on their chart-topping debut album ‘Look At Me Now’ after years of viral hit singles and world-famous Netlfix documentary.
The cross over between these two cultural institutions has been evident since the start of the Penrith Panther’s dynasty, which began around the same time as OneFour starting making waves in Australian hip hop circles.
With hometown pride at an all time high, OneFour is reportedly considering rebranding as WonFive – in the event of a fifth Penrith premiership.
“I think the fans would understand” says OneFour member, Celly14, who this week dropped his first solo single, a breakout hit titled ‘Houso Baby’ – that is already running up hundreds of thousands of views on YouTube.
“We only started thinking about this after watching Bizza’s try on the weekend”
“And seeing as the NRL won’t let us perform at the Grand Final, we feel this would be the best way to pay tribute to our mates in the banfas side, and the area in general.”
“I spose that also means I’ll need to change my stage name to CellyWonFive too”
