An independent study conducted by the Australian Lolly Foundation has confirmed what many have always suspected to be true - the Curly Wurly chocolate bar is far superior to Chomp.
For many millennials and Gen X who spent their childhood summers playing in the streets, and doing walks to their local video store and IGA, Curly Wurly and Chomp chocolate bars - then 50c - were the most commonly sought after snacks.
It’s worth mentioning that the humble Polly Waffle log bar, which has since been discontinued, was also a crowd favourite.
Now, after much debate and discussion, it can be confirmed that the chocolate coated hard caramel swirls are the GOAT of cheap, chocolatey snacks.
The lead researcher for the project, Professor Tahlia Farley, says though Chomp’s chewy caramel did reasonably well in audience surveys, it was the molar breaking Curly Wurly that took the crown.
This is not just because of its deliciousness, but also because of its versatility.
“The Curly Wurly could be consumed in many forms", explains Farley, "if it was melted, the chocolate would slide off, leaving just the swirls of hardened caramel, and sticky residue at the end of the packet."
"And if it was room temperature, or god forbid, left in the fridge, it would get stuck to the back of your teeth.”
“Some kids chose to eat it normally, while the weirdos preferred to suck all the chocolate off first.”
“There’s really no other chocolate bar like it.”
More to come.
