Woman Who Hasn’t Watched Free To Air TV Since 2008 Still Able To Recognise Every Person At The Logies

A woman who hasn’t watched free to air television since 2008 was surprised to discover that she could still recognise 90% of the celebrities at this year’s Logie Awards, which has led her to believe that the Australia media industry might be stuck in a bit of a time warp.

Despite having no idea who most international celebrities are nowadays, Anita Shafe, 35, admits that’s never been an issue with the Australian media landscape as it rarely gives any airtime to any talent born after 1985.

“Fuck me, I had no idea they were still around”, said Anita, as she flicked through images of last nights show, featuring photos of Sonia Kruger, Hamish Blake, Sophie Monk, Julia Morris and Dave Hughes, “was there anyone there under the age of thirty other than Bluey?”

Anita is of course touching on Australia’s risk avoidant approach to movies and television in general, with broadcasting companies opting to funnel money into budget reality TV shows and whatever Shaun Micallef feels like doing.

Shows such as ‘Heartbreak High’ and ‘Boy Swallows Universe’ may give the opportunity for younger talent to break through, but when it comes to mainstream success and the big bucks that follow, it’s still largely dominated by the same, familiar faces – such as Kyle and Jackie O, who somehow managed to secure a $200 million dollar, ten year radio contract in 2023.

More to come.
