A groundbreaking new report has revealed that the single thread holding Australian society together is none other than the Year 12 staple, Anh Do’s The Happiest Refugee.

As the Australian mainstream scrambles to figure out why so many Australians have been gripped by anti-immigrant sentiment, many , especially within the educational sector, are pointing to the obvious: the removal of The Happiest Refugee from the English curriculum.

Anh Do’s 2010 autobiography The Happiest Refugee became a fixture of high school library shelves throughout the 2010s, serving as the go-to Area of Study text for just about every public school English class worth its salt in the country.

The biography recounts Anh Doh and his family’s harrowing escape from Vietnam and his resilient and triumphant journey of building a new life in Australia.

Many believe the book’s removal from the curriculum is curiously aligned with the rise of political alienation and xenophobia in the post-covid era.

“I mean how can you hate on new arrivals after reading such a cracker of an underdog story on a summer’s arvo in a 2013 English class” explained Braydon Downes (31), from Dubbo.

Education experts are now calling for the book’s urgent reinstatement, describing it as “the book equivalent of WD-40 for multicultural harmony”

Others argue that no amount of TikTok explainers or government ad campaigns could ever replicate the unifying power of a heart warming chapter on Anh’s mum sewing his school uniform.

The Department of Education has confirmed it is reviewing the findings of the report.

Calls have also grown for Footy Legends to be made mandatory viewing as well.
