Record High Fare Evasion In NSW Linked To Rail Service’s Record High Schedule Evasion

The NSW Government is today pondering the revelation that its constituents are the biggest fare dodgers in the country.

This follows a damning report which revealed that nearly one in 10 commuters down south aren’t paying their way.

8% of passengers are apparently not fussed on paying for their trip, nearly double the rate of the good little obedient citizens of Melbourne.

The hard to categorise people of our great state have recently halved their rate of fare evasion, after the implementation of 50c fares.

Much has been made of the reasons for the prolific ticket inspector dodging in Sydney and NSW, with speculation that a 20% hike in prices since 2020 might be behind the trend.

However, the consulting group behind the research has confirmed to The Advocate that the real reason for the evasion is actually Sydney trains’ evasion of any form of a consistent and reliable schedule.

“Yeah, the universal thinking behind dodging is actually how fucked the train network is,” said the lead researcher of the report.

“The delays, disappearance of trains, and speeding through stops that were on the schedule, are fuelling the anti-fare sentiment.”

“No one has an issue paying for an actual service that works.”

“It’s the consistent and prolonged failures of the system as a result of deliberate underfunding as part of previous government’s efforts to try and sell off the ‘inefficient public transport network.'”

“Thankfully the current mob don’t seem to be trying to run it into the ground to the point where the general public genuinely feel like selling the train network couldn’t make it worse.”

“But you can’t fix widespread issues with a large piece of public infrastructure overnight.”
