With their finals hopes already dashed, the South Sydney Rabbitohs will be giving it all against their historic rivals in the round 27 send-off at Allianz Stadium.
Local Bunnies fan, Corey Gorey (59) says look, it’s been a disappointing season – but at least the boys get to finish the season with a match at home.
“We’ll all be there” says Corey, a postman from the heart of the Rabbitohs turf in Daceyville.
“The silver-lining is that the fans get to show their support with the last dance at our historic South Sydney home ground”
Their opponents, The Eastern Suburbs Roosters have a lot more to lose – with the possibility of having their once-promised finals berth taken from them by a loss to the Rabbitohs.
Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett has the power to play evil mathematician in the final minutes of the regular NRL season, with both Bunnies and Roosters fans well aware of the statistical chance of Easts losing their spot in the final eight to his old team, the Redcliffe Dolphins.
But for Corey Gorey, it’s not really about that. He just wants to see Souths boys play with pride at their homeground, which is a brand new stadium in the heart of South Sydney, that belongs only to them.
“Roosters fans will be chuffed too. It’s not that big of a drive for them, plus they have a Members section that serves craft beer and prawn rolls”
“So they’ll feel like they are at home. Even though they aren’t”
“Glory Glory” says Corey Gorey.
