Seasoned travellers have let out a collective groan today after Qantas announced it was going to slash the value of their reward points by up to 20 per cent, making the points now the most worthless currency in the world, even less than the New Zealand dollar.
It’s a somewhat dog move for the national carrier who was once the darling of Australian aviation, and it has led many customers to question what happened to the “Spirit of Australia”.
“Why should my points pay the price of corporate mismanagement?” fumed one local fifo worker.
“I see they’re rolling out new uniforms with some Eastern Suburbs designer, is that really necessary right now? Maybe focus on giving your customers what they need first.”
Comparing dollar for dollar, one Qantas point is worth somewhere between 0.2 and 0.15 Australian cents, making it officially worth less than the New Zealand dollar which, by comparison, trades at a whopping 0.90c.
The New Zealand dollar has never been a major currency player given the low global demand for orcs and jandals, but the news that it is no longer at the bottom of the food chain has buoyed some fx traders.
“Oh bruh thus is fantastuc news, especially wuth our recent short”
While Kiwi’s are giddy with the news, Qantas customers have been left wondering if their loyalty is worth anything anymore.
“I defended them when they released that shit in-flight video where they time travelled, but this is where I draw the line.”
More to come.
