Noticeably Cranky Mood In The NewsCorp Office This Morning As Albanese Secures Meeting With Trump

There was a noticeably sour mood in the NewsCorp offices this morning, with roughly half the newsroom reportedly scrambling to come up with fresh headlines, now that Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has finally met with US President Donald Trump during his visit to New York.

This development comes after months of relentless coverage from NewsCorp journalists fixating on Albanese’s supposed inability to score face time with Trump, conveniently ignoring the fact that, on the global stage, Australia’s relevance is somewhat limited, with a population smaller than California’s.

Last night, Albanese uploaded a beaming selfie of himself with Trump to social media, prompting a minor meltdown across both News Corp and LNP headquarters.

The move has drawn criticism from some, with concerns raised about getting too cosy with a world leader who stands accused of dragging his country towards authoritarianism.

Still, the photo op has satisfied NewsCorp to some degree, now that Australia is finally a serious country.

It remains unclear whether this diplomatic moment will bring Australia any closer to actually receiving the submarines promised under AUKUS.

According to one insider, NewsCorp journalists who’ve spent the past few months flogging the ‘Albo can’t meet Trump’ angle are now being offered to take a redundancy or pivot to the following departments – writing about what Gen Z think of millennials, screenshotting female content creators TikTok videos at the worst possible frame and writing inflammatory articles about them, or stealing stories from the Australia subreddit.

More to come.
