Man Talking To Musician Itching To Reveal He Played The Drums Once

It was a Thursday afternoon and the atmosphere was electric down in Betoota’s art district, conversation was flowing, jokes were made, laughter flowed from everyone.

Except for Gary Moreson (38) who wasn’t actively participating but rather mentally planning when he could drop into conversation what he thought was a really cool thing he used to do.

Gary was in a conversation with Jason John, lead singer of the successful indie band The Hot Rods.

John was in the middle of sharing tour stories to the small crowd that hovered around him, and just as he drew breath to get to the story’s climax, Gary jumped in.

“Iusedtoplaythedrumsonce” he blurted out so fast no one could understand him. A confused look from John made Gary repeat himself.

“I.. ahh.. used to play the drums once..”

If ever a group of people could collectively school their faces into the exact same ‘so-fucking what-mate-who-cares?-You-work-in-insurance-now’ look, it was that moment.

Having completely ruined the moment, Gary excused himself from the conversation with a weak excuse of needing the bathroom. It was there that The Advocate caught up with him.

“What was I thinking?!” he said, pulling fingers through his hair.

“I had one shot to be cool and I blew it!”

It’s understood Gary played the drums for one semester during high school but was encouraged to stick to lacrosse by Mr. Doyle the drum teacher.

Whether or not Gary attempts to redeem himself through some kind of self-hazing technique remains to be seen, however given it’s 2025 and Jason John seems like a modern man with no interest in that kind of stuff it’s probably more of a self-flagellation thing for Gary.

More to come.
