Local Bloke Parks Himself At Front Gate With Bucket Of Lollies For The Kids And An Esky For The Dads

Local dad, Pete Valentine (46, fleet logistics) has gotten home early from work this Friday to hold the fort for this thing the Americans call Halloween.

Apparently, if he doesn’t hand over ‘treats’ to the neighbours kids, he’s at at great risk of being ‘tricked’.

While the wife walks the streets to keep an eye on their own kids, Pete is at home making sure the house doesn’t get egged.

He’s got a bucket full of Minties, Starbursts, Chuppa-Chups, Cadbury Favourites.. and the ultimate prize – a few boxes of Nerds.

As a man with quite the sweet tooth himself, Pete knows the currency of lollies. His kids have spent the last couple days preparing their skeleton and and zombie costumes, only to hit the streets knowing that none of the local parents are offering up anything quite as good as their dad. So do the other kids.

In fact, so do the other parents. Because Pete also has a stash of treats for the dads.

Parking himself at the front gate with a couple camping chairs, Pete has a kids menu and a bar menu.

The latter includes a fully stocked esky of mid-strength beers, full strength beers and whatever canned lolly water his wife has around the house. A quick run to Dan Murphys and a fridge scramble has made for quite the late-October afternoon tipple.

The other local dads know the drill, they’ve all mapped out their own specific routes throughout the neighbourhood, with the aim of visiting Pete’s place last.

Sal has a bluetooth speaker playing some Fleetwood Mac. There’s talk of someone ordering in pizzas to the same front gate. It’s gonna take the kids a while to come down from the sugar anyway.
