Opposition leader Sussan Ley has defied calls from within her own party to stop making such an issue out of what the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese chose to wear while alighting from the RAAF VIP transport plane earlier this week, doubling down on criticism that the dress was “offensive” and “inappropriate.”

This week, Albanese returned from a conference in Asia where he rubbed shoulders again with US President Donald Trump and leaders from all over the APAC region. Upon landing back in Australia, the Prime Minister was spotted wearing a sheer “chainmail” dress that many conservative commentators have said exposed too much of the prime ministerial skin and left little to the imagination.

“He should apologise,” said Ley.

“To wear that outfit around Air Force staff, to wear that at at, is a disgrace and there needs to be something done about it.”

The Prime Minister’s Office has been uncharacteristically tight-lipped over the dress, which hugged Albanese’s trim new figure. In addition to that, the sheer nature of the dress made it quite easy to see the Prime Minister’s areolas in the correct light.

Labor insiders have told The Advocate that it was a simple “wardrobe malfunction” that many Australians suffer from time to time.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers explained candidly to our reporter over a game of tennis in Cannon Hill this afternoon that it’s a “non-issue” but admitted the image makes for uncomfortable viewing.

“Mate, look, no member of the public wants to see Albo’s engorged breasts, especially after a 12-hour flight down from wherever the hell he was. Korea? Anyway, I’m sure he just threw on the first thing he found and didn’t think about it,” he said.

“Not that he wears this kind of stuff usually. Mostly, it’s just P Johnson off-the-rack wedding bangers or dad jeans with some Gen X rock dog shirt on the top. You know, he could’ve just worn a Joy Division t-shirt or something and none of this would be an issue,”

“But yeah, I saw the photo. It’s not good, hey?”

The Advocate reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office for comment but have yet to receive a reply – and one is not expected until Monday.

More to come.
